Fire Breaks Out Aboard Amadea Cruise Ship in Denmark With 320 Passengers Moved to Safety

A fire broke out aboard cruise ship MS Amadea while the vessel was docked in Denmark on Monday morning, prompting 320 passengers to be moved to another part of the ship.
The fire started in a linen storage area aboard the ship while Amadea was alongside the cruise quay in Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm on 14 September.
Emergency services were alerted at 7:21am.
Just ten minutes later, at 7:31am, the fire had been extinguished.
All 320 affected passengers were reported to be safe and well.
Passengers moved between decks during fire
Initial reports from Bornholm Police said the 320 passengers had been evacuated from the ship.
Police subsequently issued an important correction.
Rather than leaving Amadea entirely, passengers were moved from one deck to another onboard the vessel while the incident was brought under control.
Police, firefighters and Denmark's emergency management agency responded to the cruise quay following the alarm.
The fire was contained to a linen storage area and was extinguished within approximately ten minutes.
No injuries were reported.
Cause of Amadea fire under investigation
Bornholm Police said an investigation was underway to determine what caused the fire.
No further details about the cause had been released at the time of publication.
The rapid response meant the incident was brought under control without the need to evacuate passengers from the ship.
Amadea was visiting Rønne as part of a 12-day Baltic and Scandinavian cruise operated by German cruise company Phoenix Reisen, which departed Bremerhaven on 5 September.
The itinerary includes ports in Norway, Denmark, Poland and Germany, with Amadea scheduled to visit Rønne from 8am until 6pm before continuing to Wismar.
A very different morning in Bornholm
For passengers expecting a day exploring the Danish island of Bornholm, a fire alarm and emergency response probably wasn't the start to the morning they had anticipated.
Fortunately, this incident was dealt with remarkably quickly.
Only ten minutes passed between police receiving the initial report and the fire being declared extinguished.
Most importantly, all 320 passengers affected were reported to be well, with no injuries reported following the incident.
Authorities are now left with the considerably less dramatic job of determining exactly how a fire managed to start in the ship's linen storage area.
